The Post Graduate Students' Society of McGill University (PGSS) is a non-partisan
society that offers support, advocacy, and event services for its nearly 8,000 members.
We offer dynamic and challenging work for an individual who is interested in education
and improving the lives of the post-graduate student population of McGill University.

The Writer/Researcher will be responsible for conducting primary and secondary research to assist the officers of the PGSS in producing white papers on topics related to university and government policy. S/he will execute the research projects and provide reports to the Executive, as needed. S/he will develop written documents, and assist with editing needs related to these projects. The writer/researcher will be expected to perform 3 research projects of approximately 1 month duration. Each project will consist of a literature review and comparative analysis of university / government practices, followed by the production of a brief white paper on the topic including proposals for policy improvements specific to the McGill /Quebec context.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
• Research various aspects of the Quebec, Canadian and international education systems, based on priorities, as identified by the Executive Committee
• Provide resources, and research, analyze, and draft reports on policies, issues, and themes specific to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at McGill University
• Assist the Executive Committee in drafting PGSS policy documents, as needed

Education and Experience
• Background and work experience in advanced level research (quantitative and qualitative)
• Knowledge of the university structure and system in both Quebec and other provinces
• Proficiency in office software
• Excellent writing and analytical skills
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
• Research interview skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment and to multi-task
• Ability to read in French is strongly preferred

Contract Details
- short-term contract, $20/hr, approximately 15 hrs/week (2 ½ months)
