full time Data Processing Technician / System Administrator (Kawawachikamach, Quebec)

The candidate will be working for the Jimmy Sandy Memorial School as the Data Processing Technician (50%) and for Naskapi Imuun Inc. as the Systems Administrator (50%).

Jimmy Sandy Memorial School - Data Processing Technician:

Nature of the work:
The principal and customary work of an employee in this class of employment consists in programming or modifying in-house applications, managing networks, repairing complicated breakdowns for computer users and assisting computer analysts in the development and implementation of systems.

Characteristic functions:
The employee in this class of employment programs or modifies applications using appropriate programming languages in order to meet the specific needs of users; he or she tests software and programs and, if necessary, adapts them to ensure that they are compatible with existing systems and that they meet the needs of users.
He or she manages, installs and configures systems or oversees the installation of components according to the procedures he or she establishes; tests, modifies and upgrades computer networks; develops and oversees the application of various procedures related to the use of networks and equipment, particularly those concerning backup copies, destruction of obsolete files and equipment maintenance.
He or she acts as a resource person for the complicated breakdowns of equipment and software, particularly with regard to the installation and configuration and, if need be, carries out installations and configurations.
He or she drafts instructions for software and applications and participates in the training of users.
He or she formulates suggestions and recommendations concerning the purchase of computer equipment.
He or she may assist analysts in the analysis, development and implementation of computer systems, as needed.
He or she may oversee computer-related work.
He or she may be required to train less experienced technicians as well as coordinate the work of support staff in performing duties related to the implementation of programs involving technical operations for which he or she is responsible.
If need be, he or she performs any other related duty.

Required qualifications:
Hold a Diploma of College Studies in computer science technology (business information technology) or a diploma or an attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authority;
Have a well-developed sense of responsibility and show autonomy in his/her work;
Have a very good knowledge of spoken and written English.

Naskapi Imuun Inc. - System Administrator:

Description of work:
The Computer Technician/System Administrator will report to the Director General of the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach and will undertake tasks related to the maintenance and operations of the satellite-based internet, cellular telephone and computer equipment business.

Specifically, the individual will be responsible for:
• maintaining the computers and computer network at the Nation Office, in collaboration with Netgate Systems;
• monitoring the status of and maintaining the satellite internet and cellular systems and wireless internet distribution network in collaboration Telesat, Lynx Mobility and Beyond Communications;
• maintaining and monitoring the cellular telephone network, in collaboration with Lynx Mobility;
• undertaking basic computer equipment repairs and maintenance activities;
• providing first line technical support related to internet access and cellular telephones, computer equipment;
• programming and troubleshooting cellular telephones;
• providing training and consultation to strengthen local capacity;
• providing to the Administrative Manager with weekly written records of maintenance activities;
• undertaking any other tasks that may be assigned from time-to-time by the Director General of the Nation and/or the Corporation's Advisors.

Requirements - The successful candidate must:
• have successfully completed a degree or certificate in a related field (A+ Computer Technician Certification is considered an asset);
• be at least 18 years of age;
• be fluent in English (French is considered an asset);
• be responsible, reliable and trustworthy;
• be motivated and capable of working with or without supervision;
• posses cultural awareness and sensitivity;
• be capable of time management;
• have a valid drivers license;
• have no criminal record.

Qualifications - The successful candidate must:
• be willing to troubleshoot technical issues;
• have knowledge of basic networking skills (for example, implementing static IPs, setting up the wifi on laptops, setting up IP parameters, and/or wimax system, etc.);
• have knowledge regarding telecommunications systems (satellite, cellular, WiMax, PBX) and equipment;
• have knowledge of EVDO networks;
• have knowledge of PC, network equipment and printers, and other computer peripherals;
• be willing to work, when required, in the evenings, over weekends and holidays.
